Day 1: Arrival/Quito
Upon your arrival at the International Airport in Quito, our staff is on hand to whisk you off to your hotel – an excellent 5-star hotel. This is your chance to rest and freshen up.
Day 2: Quito
You have the option to have breakfast in bed. Then, we are off to the sights in Quito’s Old Town. Spend the day discovering why Quito earned a place in UNESCO’s list of the world’s top one hundred places to visit.
Ahh… historical Quito! This beautiful city is nestled between volcanoes and mountains and is just some 20 kilometers from the equator. Quito has a lot of interesting sights you should visit. There is La Campania de Jesus Church, a church known for its exceptional artwork (paintings, statues and religious relics), as well as its glorious gilded interiors comprised of gold and Moorish filigree. This church is said to be one of the most elaborate in the country.
Stroll along the Plaza de la Independencia, the town square which is lined with national monuments, such as the Government Palace, the Archbishops’s palace and the Iglesia de la Cathedral.
Next stop would be up, up, up the winding streets to El Panecillo, where your climb will be rewarded by great views of the city. Here, you will also find the statue of the Virgin of Quito, standing proud against the blue sky. Then it’s off to the Equatorial Line Museum – straddle the equatorial line and be literally in two places (hemispheres!) at the same time.
The day ends with a romantic candle-lit dinner in one of the best restaurants in the city. We’re sure this will put you right in the mood for some loving. What you do with the rest of the night… well, it’s up to you.
Day 3: Cotopaxi
Take a nature trip to Cotopaxi National Park and enjoy nature’s offering of flora and fauna. The park also boasts of wow-worthy vies of Cotopaxi Volcano, whose snow-capped peak is close to 6,000 meters in altitude. A cozy lunch at a mountain hut adds to the romantic atmosphere. Then, you can spend the night in an actual hacienda located at the Ecuadorian Andes in Cotopaxi Province. Another candle-lit diner is set to cap your day. Your suite at this beautiful hacienda will be the perfect setting for Day 3 of your honeymoon adventure.
Day 4: Quilotoa
Go shopping! Explore one of the region’s largest indigenous markets. You can also head for the Quilotoa Crater Lake. Keep a watchful eye for Indian villages you will surely find along the way. Take a basket and go out on a picnic by the lake. On the way back to Quito, we will pass by another lovely hacienda. This is your chance to talk and mingle with a local whose family played key roles in the country’s history. The landlord himself will be your host and will receive you personally.
Day 5: Papallacta
Take this honeymoon to newer heights, literally! Day 5 is all about a trip to the eastern portion of the Ecuadorian Andes. Pass by the village of Papallacta and get the chance to take a relaxing and luxurious dip into the waters of the thermal springs. The water can range from 30 to 70 degrees Celsius. In Papallacta, you will also have the change to pamper yourself with the various health and beauty treatments offered by the spa there. Then it’s back to that delectable hacienda near Quito. This is where you will spend the night.
Day 6: Otavalo
This day is about getting the chance to get a glimpse of the Andean country life. Let’s head north along the Pan-American Highway onto Cayambe. This small town is a perfect example of the country life of Ecuador. If you’re lucky, you will also get to see the picturesque view of Cayambe Volcano in all its snowcapped glory before we go to our next stop, Cotacachi. There, you will be staying at the hotel that is recognized as Ecuador’s best country hotel. In the afternoon, it’s another round of shopping at the Otavalo Market. This indigenous market is a wonderful cacophony of colors, textures and the lilting voices of locals convincing you to buy their wares. The Otavalo Market is undoubtedly one of the best local markets in the country. You will also get a chance to visit with some artisans.
Day 7: Cuicocha Crater Lake - Quito
Ahhh… after the week’s flurry of activities, now is the time to relax and indulge yourselves with a soothing spa treatment. You can choose to visit nearby Cuicocha Crater Lake, or just stay in the hotel from some more “us” time with your love. Then, after you have rested and refreshed yourselves, we will take you on a fascinating church visit where a local will relay riveting stories about Quito during the colonial times. Cap the night with feasting on local delicacies from one of Quito’s best restaurants.
Day 8: Departure
After a sumptuous breakfast, it will be off to the airport. On your flight home, we are sure that you carry with you precious memories of a lovely honeymoon. Indeed, this will be a journey of discovery – not just of what Ecuador can offer but more than that, we hope our honeymoon will provide you with perfect opportunities to get to know each other better, to watch your love for each other grow deeper. Remember, this journey is just the beginning…
